Regina, Saskatchewan

My excitement for art began when I was a child in a one-room Alberta prairie schoolhouse called Sunnydale School.  There, during a Friday afternoon art class, I began painting my idea of a butterfly with watercolours. As I painted, I began to notice the wet colours flowing and spreading across the paper, melding and forming into new colours.  My butterfly had been transformed by newly discovered colours I didn’t know existed. This event began my fascination with the infinite nature of colour.

I explore lived experiences, especially the traces left behind from the places we have lived in. When these places no longer exist, nature remains, guarding/holding the traces and memories we have left behind.  I am concerned with connecting this meaning with the formal elements of painting.

I work with oil, acrylic, watercolour, charcoal, and printmaking in my home studio and also in my “Up the Hill Studio” at Last Mountain Lake Cultural Centre, Regina Beach SK.
