This pink is just delicious. The softness of this sculpture is created by the flow of the lines and the resulting planes. This sculpture is pleasing and satisfies the one’s appetite for creativity and simplicity.
Interesting how perspectives change. This alabaster sculpture was on the road to being ‘Crescent Moon’. However, when shaping this sculpture, the flow changed with the result you now see. The colours in this alabaster sculpture are also unique because it combines browns on one side and various greens on the other. This is the result of 2 different experiences of stone that met over thousands of years ago.
Interesting how just a small little twist can create the impression of a penguin. Also, with this soapstone, the blending of 2 different colours on this soapstone works perfectly to complete the impression. Though this sculpture is completely mad of soapstone, the nature of each of the colours is significantly different. The green is composed of soft shards while the brown is homogeneous. In the end, it all works well together.
A unique element of Canadian soapstone is the infusion of light green streaks within a dark green stone. They appear throughout this sculpture and add a sparkle to the stone. Initially, a natural break on the inside curve of the sculpture appeared as a beautiful, rugged ridge and was to be incorporated. It however did not work no matter what approach was taken. After some time, the rugged edge was eliminated and the flow of the work emerged.
