The AIC Gallery presents SPECIMEN DAYS by Dave Gordon. Here is a recent interview with Dave about his work on Canadian Art Today.
I sat down with Dave Gordon on Canadian Art Today. We discussed his work, specifically his commentary on global warming and climate change - and how it affects wildlife.
Interview
Walt Whitman's SPECIMEN DAYS is a collection of sketches/observations -war memoranda, nature jottings, and travel notes published after the U.S. Civil War. He found peace and comfort in "concrete outdoor Nature, the only permanent reliance for sanity of book or human life". Whitman's belief that untouched nature could restore one's psyche reminds us that we must protect the planet. My exhibition similarly features colourful specimens from nature, and imaginary landscapes that allude to man-made climate change with displaced creatures and ominous signs.
