Robert Genn Passes Away

Posted: May 31, 2014

Robert Genn will sadly be missed as an online mentor to artists from all around the world. Not only was he a fine artist in his own right and his down to earth demeanor made him approachable by artists of all stripes online and in person.

His Painters Keys Newsletter came to our mailboxes twice a week for many years, without fail. He inspired, reminded, nurtured always with a positive response for all situations. He took us with him on his many journeys and shared cultural stories, business experiences from behind the easel to kids in a classroom, even online critiques. For all that followed his newsletters he instilled a sense of pride and privilege of being an artist along with the work ethic required to have a successful art career. Leading by example he openly shared all that he knew.

Early in the development years of Artists in Canada, I met Robert Genn on line through Painters Keys. Our website directory was young and looking for good Canadian content and Robert Genn graciously allowed us to post his twice-weekly newsletters with no obligation. AIC made him a lifetime member at that time. It was a like a handshake agreement and we both went about our business to help artists. His advice is timeless and can still be found on Painters Keys.

Sara Genn, his daughter, is also a fine painter and writer. She has inherited her father’s generosity of sharing art experiences and antidotes as she continues with Painters Keys. We look forward to the next generation of this valued resource for artists.

Thank you Robert for what you started and Sara for what is to come.

Stay Connected.
