TWAC Juried Art Show Announces the Peoples Choice Winners

Artists in Canada would like to thank our local member artists who volunteered their time, including the TWAC volunteers who helped represent Artists in Canada over this 18day period. Your participation put a tangible face to our national organization of Canadian artists, now in our 16th year. As an independently run Canadian Artists Directory we are supported solely by Artists and Art Gallery memberships, hosting and advertising opportunities.

The CNE like any other Exposition is an unorthodox, yet tantalizing venue. The personal traffic generated over this same time period are numbers any Public Art Gallery CEO would give up their parking space for. This venue is not unlike a Pop-Up Gallery, though in a very unexpected neighbourhood. The CNE congers up the hiss and pop of the midway, unique smells of fast food, barkers and displays of local wares and bedazzling bling, so when a viewer passes through all this bombardment into the centre of the Arts Pavilion – the enlarged art space becomes a bit of an anomaly. Once orientated, people are presented with 15 juried, higher quality pieces of artwork and encouraged to participate in voting for the piece they like best. In the late 1800’s the CNE used to be a strong venue to present cutting edge art and inventions to the public. In the past 70 years art galleries have become more prevalent, retaining the better artists, so the Exhibitions filled the void with other available art and craft interests. Now fine artists want this public space back and the CNE has agreed to make space available! With the first year under our belt, we will continue to strengthen the presence of fine art at the CNE.

“On behalf of Artists in Canada, I would like to thank everyone who participated in this years TWAC Juried Art Show and in helping mentor young and emerging artists who may have been influenced by a piece of art they saw. It could be a career changing moment for them as well as the general public being exposed to fine art in a non-intimidating platform. Artists who dare to take risks in the making of their art accept the idiosyncrasies of such spaces, but the truth be told – GOOD ART ALWAYS STANDS OUT AND SHOWS WELL. Thank you again.” Paul Constable, director.

Congratulations to the 3 People’s Choice winners, including the Artists in Canada award.

“Voter turnout was tremendous, well over 5000 ballots cast over 18 days. Early numbers show 1.5 million visitors to the CNE and TWAC is already planning the 2016 Show. The exposure for all of us was tremendous said Donna Child, TWAC Director.“

Donna Child was recently nominated to the CNEA as a member representing the Art community in Canada and will encourage many wonderful things planned to promote ART at future CNE Events. Visit www.twac.ca regularly for updates.
