Born and raised on the prairies, the lively skies and sprawling fields were the inevitable inspiration for a young artist. Capturing these images has become an obsession, whether its a small canvas or a massive mural.
Mitch Babin is a visual artist born and raised in Saskatchewan, currently residing in the town of Colonsay. Working with spray paint, acrylic and charcoal, he likes to use a vibrant colour palette to loosely depict scenes of the prairies. His skill set was honed through years of graffiti-styled artwork before shifting his focus to Saskatchewan landscapes. Graffiti on trains is what first caught Mitch's attention and drew his eye to the landscapes and the industries that reside along the train tracks.
His work is inspired by the prairie landscapes, specifically the vanishing grain elevators. Mitch spends a lot of time driving around the province, exploring and collecting reference photos. Using these references and materials he moves back to his studio to recreate those feelings on canvas with his favorite tools.
