Name: Valerie Crisp, born in Toronto, Ontario on August 30, 1923, the first of three children born to James and Florence (Hofland) Langdon. Thomas Christopher Hofland (1777 - 1843) was a great-great grand uncle. Education: Oak Park, Illinois, The Chicago Art Institute, Ontario Ladies College and Mount Allison Fine Arts Program with renowned artist Christian McKiel and in Saint John, N.B. with another well known Canadian Artist, Fred Ross.Additional information is archived in the National Gallery of Canada's Library collections. Canadian Armed Service: Royal Canadian Air Force (Womens Division) 1943-1945. Photographer. Residence: Lived and painted in Ontario, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick for the past fifty odd years. Currently reside in Saint John, N.B. where for many years my late husband Jim Crisp was in the insurance business,I sold real estate and we raised our two sons. Personal: My youngest son paints, a grandson attends art school in Calgary where he shows great promise. I am active in a number of local organizations including The Saint John Art Club where I have been a member since about 1968. In 2007, I celebrated my eighty-fourth birthday with a helicopter ride over Camp Gagetown and the head pond of the Mataquack Dam.
