A Woman's Skin; detail (2009)
This dress is about the good and bad in all enduring relationships. The metal is a 'skin of armour' grown over time; the various folds represent both the positive / supportive things said and the negative / hurtful things said; phrases and words are etched into the metal, like scars; the dark brown, black and reddish patinas caused by heating and quenching the metal are a metaphor for aging and the imperfections and pleasures we encounter throughout our life.Photography: Zach Hauser
