Louise P Rouleau – L’OR biography
It is axiomatic, artists evolve; and L’OR’s art career is a 50-year statement of this truth. Her paintings have been exhibited in Paris, New York, Chicago, The Pacific Northwest, Vermont, Toronto and, of course her native, Québec. Of paramount interest is not where her art has traveled, but the journey of the spirit and motivation that manifests her art now. This exploration has led her to a new painting surface, Terraskin, and techniques that she alone has innovated.
Born in Montreal, L'OR studied Art and Graphic Design at Concordia University. All her career is based on her passion for research. ''Résolument unique '', her paintings provoke a reaction. She has been awarded 24 prizes; 18 in international competitions. In the last 4 years she has focused on illustrating her own oracle card decks. The first deck, Magical Dreams & The Power of Determination was published in 2023.
L'OR embodies the essence of a bold Canadian artist, intrepid in her quest for uniqueness. Throughout her career, she has devoted herself to exploring the holographic effect of superimposed colors. She understands that the eye perceives, and the mind interprets color. Her work reconciles these two facets, that of the eye and that of the mind. Each of her creations begins with an abstract background, a surface where the subjects take shape as multiple layers of color are applied. Her imagination guides her choice of subjects, allowing viewers to inject their own interpretation. Without ever being redundant, her approach is visceral, intuitive and instinctive.
L'OR is an artist who doesn't just create but explores the complexity of nuance and tone. Her palette becomes an instrument through which she dialogues with emotions, thoughts and perceptions. She employs layers of color like so many interwoven veils, gradually revealing an ever-changing world of meanings. Each touch, each superimposed hue, is like a fragment of her dialogue with matter, an exploration of how light plays with color to shape perception.
Her works, in their initial abstraction, are the fertile ground in which ideas germinate. Her subjects are born of color, gradually liberating themselves from the world around them.
