Artisan, Painting, Photography, Mixed Media, Abstract
The creation of art is spiritual, emotional, and empowering. I create through the exploration of various mediums; painting, mask making, journal making, and photography. The art process and working in solitude delivers for me a venue of critique, empowerment, and community. I have a studio space in my home where I focus on the creation of masks and a studio space in North Battleford, an artist collective of 14 artists, where I focus on painting.
My paintings are created on raw canvas using encaustic wax and fabric dyes that bring out colour intensities. I use layers of colour and wax to create a design of contemplation with one’s spirituality and self identity.
My wearable masks are all “one of a kind” made using paper-mache as a basic form and then creating a second layer over the original shape to enhance an identity.
Journal making empowers the process of contemplation and visualization of life. I use watercolour paper and various mediums to create tactile images that draw out the emotions of an individual and set the stage for recording thoughts.
