I am bringing this recent SCAM alert by a person using PayPal as a false sense of security to a seller. In this case an artist. I recently have been conversing with this person as she showed, and interest in one of my works. I decided to follow through to see what the scam was, It is not an NFT selling scam.
First, she asks how much is the art work?
Once you answer this, it activates a chain of messages to establish credibility.
You will see in the split image above the initial contact and the right side shows that they say PayPal wants me to add an additional $500 to the account.
PayPal never works like this. You will also see the gmail account it goes to. Always check this in the browser.
I could never find any information on this person on her Facebook account.
That is suspect to start with. This may not even be what she looks like.
In the conversation she says she is out of town on a medical family matter and she would have her son pick up the painting at the agreed coffee shop. The next she said her daughter would pick it up. after asking which is it and she said both would pick it up together. Funny that they both live in my city. They want to do it today. I ask for the address for the receipt and the kid's names - no response.
Then the fake PayPal notice.
The meeting would never happen, she wants the money not the painting. Please make sure you don't get scammed. We like that people want our art but always do your homework. I hope this helps and all the best with the Christmas season ahead.
