"My work is a personal interpretation of abstract landscapes based on my passion for geography, travel and architecture. I use cartography style imagery and grids to evoke images of maps, satellite views and architectural structures. My intention is to encourage an emotional narrative by embodying my own journeys around the world and evoking references to both nature and the built environment with form, space and materials."
Anastessia's work was recently included in the John B. Aird's national survey of Canadian contemporary art "Painting 2020.” Bettas' “District” painting is part of the permanent collection in the Museum of Encaustic Art in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Her works have received numerous accolades and awards. She is an expert in the use of encaustic paint having over 15 years' experience; has lectured on the topic and given workshops. Artists who have influenced her include Joan Mitchell, Agnes Martin and encaustic masters, Jasper Johns and Brice Marden.
