Sculpture
I make art to recreate an experience. For the same reasons we play games, attend events and watch sports - I want to feel the effects of inspiration, again and again. I am Gail Folwell, a sculptor of public art. I specialize in powerful, athletic, figurative abstractions.
EXPERIENCE I have had the pleasure of creating large-scale public figurative and sport sculpture across the United States, most recently completing two commissions for the Denver Art Museum: 'In The Peloton' (2014), a cycling piece and 'Tête à Tête' (2013), two figures that change interpretation when spun. Tête à Tête quickly became too popular to touch and inspired the museum to adopt a hands-on exception to their rules. My first monument was 'The Edge' for Vail Resort's Mountain Plaza in 2008. A tribute to Vail's Olympic and World Cup Athletes, the sculpture has become a favorite photo opportunity for visitors and award ceremonies. My next installation is for Canton, Ohio in conjunction with the Pro Football Hall of Fame to install 'The NFL Draft, 1936' celebrating Bert Bell.
