My abstract landscape, still life and social commentary paintings have a spontaneous, animated quality, binding strong contours and shapes within a limited palette.
Richard Austin was born in St. John’s, Newfoundland and studied design, photography and fine art in Montréal, Toronto and Ottawa. Richard is a former art editor, designer, draftsman, photographer and filmmaker for magazine and newspaper publications, advertising studios, and educational institutions. He created television commercials, print advertising, public space art, publication and architectural designs, and photographic portfolios.
As a filmmaker, Richard directed and edited music videos, dramatic and documentary films and public service announcements. Video productions had public screenings at festivals and a documentary film on public health champion and Mi’kmaq, Heather Crowe, and was distributed to high schools throughout Ontario. Richard has published several portfolio books and exhibited his acrylic paintings and hand-painted photographic images at galleries internationally.
