Shelley Ewing is originally from North Battleford, Saskatchewan. She recalls doing art from a very young age and was always intrigued in visual arts and communication.
Shelley Ewing is a Southern Alberta artist, living in Medicine Hat, Alberta. She spent 33 years working as a scientific illustrator for DRDC Canada, a world-class research Centre that supports the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) and Canadian public security. Over this rewarding career, she moved from using tradition illustration and graphic design in the mid-1980s (watercolor and acrylic), to creating science stories in 2D and 3D digital computer renderings. Upon retirement in 2015, Shelley pursued her own art, returning to creating in traditional methods of watercolor, acrylic, oil, mixed media and pastels.
Shelley’s interest is driven by many different areas of subject matter. From people, pets to landscapes and multimedia projects. Unique lighting, a small nuance or gesture can be the catalyst for an art direction. She spends many hours biking and hiking in nature and is inspired by many of those scenes. Sometimes the challenge might be a realistic representation or trying to create a more abstract impression of those views. She also is intrigued by people, faces; capturing the expression of moment in time, conveying a story with a visual message.
Shelley is a graduate of Visual Communication and Design, Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, Medicine Hat College, 1981.
