The making of Queen of Sorrow

“Queen of Sorrow” depicts a young woman contemplating freedom from her reality. Fading into darkness, she is unable and unwilling to step into the light. The intrusive stone that surrounds and engulfs her, diminishes her senses, thus allowing her to think clearly without distractions from the outside world. This lonely and uncomplicated soul will determine her fate in the shadows without regret, knowing there is no turning back.
This sculpture was inspired by the lyrics of Zakk Wylde’s “Queen of Sorrow”. The haunting imagery and tone of the song provided me the inspiration to create an unlikely portrait of a young and flawless girl with profound burden and choices to make. At times, each of us has had to live with regret, anticipate future disappointment, and experience transitional periods after contemplation of our life choices.
“Queen of Sorrow” is a life-size, one of a kind, figurative limestone sculpture measuring 24 x 27 x 14 inches (55 x 68 x 35cm) completed in the spring of 2013. No replicas are available.
