Ted Uchacz – Artist Statement
I am driven to create, to design, and to construct. It is in the creative pursuit that I find fulfillment. Elements such as fruit, seed pods, images of microscopic organisms and anatomical structures are among some of the numerous influences on my work.
My artwork explores two different paths. I have been greatly influenced by the allure of nature, finding inspiration in natural textures, shapes and forms that I have seen or experienced in the environment around me. These works are a celebration and expression of the beauty of the natural world. However, influenced by dark, bizarre and surreal art, I also enjoy creating pieces that invoke a reaction and create dialogue about our world.
I explore the creative process in an open manner. I will start off with a general idea of what I want the piece to look like, but I never commit completely to a finished concept. My approach is organic and fluid and my pieces evolve as I am creating them.
