Elke van Breemen is a self-taught artist who developed a strong interest in wildlife art while studying Biology at the University of Victoria and then obtaining her degree in Natural Resources Conservation in Forest Sciences at the University of British Columbia. She has worked as an environmental educator and research assistant for wildlife conservation organizations in British Columbia, the U.K., and the United States. Through her detailed paintings and drawings, Elke depicts the intricate beauty and character found in wild animals while conveying a message to protect what is left of the natural world. Her works have been displayed in exhibitions in Vancouver, Alert Bay and Vancouver Island, BC. Elke teaches art classes to children and youth on Vancouver Island. She recently obtained a degree in Education at Vancouver Island University and hopes to inspire people of all ages through teaching art and ecology. She is currently illustrating Canadian children’s books and continues to create her expressive wildlife portraits. Her media of choice are acrylic, watercolour, gouache and pen & ink.
