The rocks of the prairies are like sentinels in the native grasses and sage. Colorful lichen always catches my eye creating interesting colors to the monochromatic landscape.
This collage was created entirely out of acrylic skins, which are created by manipulating dripped liquid paint into a gel medium and allowing it to set. Once dry, the skins can then be cut into shapes and adhered to the canvas. The term Quickening describes the moment that life is felt in the womb. The imagery in the artwork suggests a stirring and gathering force, with references to fertilization and the celebration of life renewed. Artwork Dimensions: 18"x18"x1"
The artwork depicts a bright red ant tunnel that crosses through 20 differently colored painted squares. Many of the designs within the squares were made using various mark-making items, such as string, large and small hollow pen tubes, braided furniture trim, eraser edges and bubble wrap for example. In each square, our hero the ant, interacts with the shape created by that portion of its' tunnel. The Calm Ant Th(red) is a play on words on The Common Thread. Artwork Dimensions: 16"x12"x2"
