Saskatoon Artwalk, More Like an Artrun
By Paul Constable
As in most cities the course has been set out in a true Olympic triathlon format. 17 venues await your visit throughout the city and downtown core, including the 13km sprint out to Wanuskewan Heritage Park. You may actually want to start out there and work your way back into the city. Now, this event is slated to run September 28th from 1:00pm to 5:00pm. Yes ladies and gentlemen, 4 hours, rain or shine. Even the white stuff doesn't stop this event. So, with your map in hand, put on your best walking/hiking/running shoes on and get started.

PLANNING YOUR ROUTE
Choose a point where you can maximize your gallery hopping. It's a bit like a Chinese checkers game. To avoid backtracking complete the galleries in one area first, otherwise it will be impossible to complete the race. Bright yellow hurtles have been provided by our City Engineering Department and have been dispersed liberally throughout the course making this event very official looking and somewhat awkward to get around. On this day, rest spots will be provided at all metered parking spaces free of charge, courtesy our fair city. After viewing the galleries on one side, you will have to ford the river to get at the remaining galleries.
Art and All That Jazz Gallery
STAYING FOCUSED
This is ARTWALKS 10th year, so I guess you don't mess with the format if it's not broke.
Artplacement Gallery
Remember - 4 hours and 17 possible galleries. I make light of the fact that a person would actually try and make it to each gallery, let alone appreciate the artwork in the allotted time. When choosing the galleries you want to visit, try and add a few in that you wouldn't normally frequent. That is what this Sunday is all about. If you are taking your own vehicle, car pool or hire a designated driver to shuttle you and your friends around. Having to look for a parking space can add stress and it will slow you down. This unique opportunity of viewing art should be enjoyable. You may actually be able to squeeze one more gallery in your half day. Also, use your cell phone to coordinate the van for picking you up. ARTWALK has traditionally kicked off the fall Art season. The extended summer shows are finally over and new works abound in our public and commercial gallery spaces, so go forth. Did I mention the galleries and gift shops are open for business, so go prepared.
