Meritorious choice (Choix méritoire)
Isn’t it something to move to the country knowing that comfort will no longer be part of one’s life? Cut, split wood for heat in winter; cultivate a large garden for vegetables; raise chicken for food on the table; all of this to meet the basic living needs of one. Even more, keep a cat in the house to chase away mice; have a dog for sole companion. But, every morning have the pleasure of looking at the mountains, breath in fresh air; feel happy and free to live on one’s own land. This was worth my mother’s choice of living.
