Artists In Canada Interview Lindsay Embree - Printmaker and Wearable Art

Reviews, Artist Reviews

In this week's episode of "Canadian Art Today," host Paul Constable sits down with the remarkably talented Lindsay Embree, whose artistic journey is as diverse as it is inspiring. Born in the small Canadian town of Goodsoil and having grown up in Chetwynd, British Columbia, Lindsay's passion for art led her from the classrooms of Kingston, Ontario, to the vibrant art scene of Saskatoon. With a career spanning over four decades, Lindsay has evolved from a printmaker who fell in love with the tactile and versatile nature of stone lithography to a visionary artist creating one-of-a-kind wearable art pieces. Her work, deeply influenced by her experiences with the Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan theatre troupe and international collaborative art events like the Emma International Collaboration and CollaboratioNZ, showcases her remarkable ability to blend various media, from fibre to metal, into stunning art forms.

Lindsay's commitment to the arts extends beyond her personal creations. Her involvement in organizing major wearable art shows in Saskatoon, including the Saskatchewan Wearable Art Gala and "Ancient Elements: An Evening of Wearable Art, Poetry, Music and Dance," highlights her role as a pivotal figure in promoting wearable art and supporting the arts community. These events, envisioned and brought to life with the help of her husband Arnfinn, not only served as platforms for artistic expression but also as fundraisers for the construction of an arts facility in the boreal forest of northern Saskatchewan. Join us as we explore Lindsay Embree's artistic evolution, her contributions to the Canadian art scene, and her ongoing quest to push the boundaries of creativity and collaboration.
