Concept Art for The National Ballet of Canada
A client commissioned a painting of Parlee Beach, a renowned family friendly wonderland of sand and sea in New Brunswick, Canada. After visiting and enjoying the place, I created this painting - showing a child not really wanting to leave the wonder of this place.
Claire is an avid (5 nights a week, competitive) hockey player. This portrait was commissioned for her father's 50th birthday. (As this piece was commissioned, it is sold)
Torn handmade paper, layered with newsprint scratchings to form a structured whole with balance of openness, line and colour.
This gestural piece was both a condensation and expansion of earlier landscape sketches .... imaginative in colour and structure and whimsical in expression. A favourite of mine.
Fine silver rings woven in a helmsweave pattern with a simple toggle clasp make this quality, feminine yet simple bracelet a beauty! The silver is the highest quality and it shows! See my website for additional pieces.
This work uses also the addition of scribblings from previous works on scrap papers in addition to cloth which has partial patterning. Dots become an important form feature here and line gives those floating objects support. I find it intriguing to play with how strongly colours and shapes are permitted to remain dominant in this spatial field.
Layering of opaque and transparent papers with linear elements created by papers and threads result in a three dimensional, curious image of interlocking shapes and images with a tactile appearance. I find these collage pieces aesthetically pleasing as well as structurally balanced.
