In various tribes, red is known to be the only color spirits see. It is hoped that by wearing red, we can call back the missing spirits of our women and children so we can lay them to rest." According to the report, 1,017 women and girls identified as Indigenous were murdered between 1980 and 2012—a homicide rate roughly 4.5 times higher than that of all other women in Canada. This is a depiction of the Hydrostone neighborhood in the North End of the Halifax Peninsula in Nova Scotia, Canada. The Hydrostone District, designed by architect Thomas Adams, was built to provide housing for working-class families displaced by the Halifax Explosion in 1917.
