painting to honour all the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW). Depicting their indigenous history and ties to the land, and their spiritual beliefs. —————— Significance of The Color Red "Red is the official color of the #MMIW campaign, but it goes deep and has significant value. In various tribes, red is known to be the only color spirits see. It is hoped that by wearing red, we can call back the missing spirits of our women and children so we can lay them to rest." According to the report, 1,017 women and girls identified as Indigenous were murdered between 1980 and 2012—a homicide rate roughly 4.5 times higher than that of all other women in Canada. In the 22-year period covered by the RCMP, acquaintances were found to be responsible for the murder of more than 300 Indigenous women and girls in Canada. The rate of homicide by acquaintances was seven times greater for Indigenous women and girls than for all other women in Canada. acrylic on Gallery wrapped canvas 36"h x 24"w ( 91 cm x 61 cm )

Lately my city has been building very high buildings at an extraordinary rate. Construction is all around, and the designs ,or lack thereof, are a common topic of conversation. I like to record my surroundings and I find there is something of the childhood memories , with all its nostalgia in seeing the large construction machines. So in honour of my childhood memories and those of my two grown boys I present to you the ubiquitous 'Machines ' or 'chines' as my boys used to call them. I hope they evoke a little something in you.
